Swanage Bijou Camping at Kirkwood Park -
- a precious rural gem set within the town of Swanage
We re-open on Friday the 27th of July 2018 and for most of August. Enquiries shall be attended to from Easter - we look forward to welcoming our customers later this year!!
Closest and easy walking distance to Swanages town centre and sandy beaches!
The whole camping area is on LEVEL GROUND and is a 7 minute level walk through parkland to the town and beach!
Following in green writing are the top ten things that set us aside from other sites.
We are level. Most of the sites around here are on the sides of hills.
We are central - it's a pleasant 7 minute level walk across the park to beach or town centre - no traffic and parking hassles, £8 per day Council parking fees, or drink driving issues! And it is an easy walk to all shops, pubs and restaurants.
The site is a manicured lawn - no more tussocks or flints!
We allow open fires and bar-b-q's by your tent for a real camping experience!
Cars are separate to the camping area - no worries about the kids playing, radios or engine noise (wheelbarrows provided to help you move your stuff the 30 meters or so).
We free camp meaning you choose where you'd like to go, and can group with friends.
Free facilities - including hot showers, lilo pumping, freezer, fridge and electric points.
We back onto huge playing fields, free adventure playground and skateboard park accessed without having to go on the road - so you can send the kids off for an hour or two to work off some energy worry free!
Quiet site, no electric hook up so no TV next door and we security patrol at night to enforce noise policy (hushed voices from 11pm and silence from midnight), and no karaoke bar!
Friendly staff who work on a personal footing with customers and will try to accommodate requests where possible (i.e. when not full), like visitor parking, late departures or early arrivals without penalty fees
AND every camper qualifies for their firrst round of pitch an putt, footgolf or frisbee golf on the on-site Swanage Golf Games course at half price!.
Set in a secluded 6 acre field and surrounded by high hedges, backed by open public land and over 100 meters away from the nearest roads or houses the ‘Bijou Camping’ site at Kirkwood Park is by far the closest of any campsite in Swanage with an easy level walk to the town centre with shops, bars and restaurants and the lovely sandy beach with safe swimming.
The camping area is tents only, and, while we recognise this means moving your gear up to 40 meters (free barrows are provided!), this means no car radios, no early morning engines starting up and no worries about kids mixing with traffic in the camping field.
The surrounding 20 acres of fields are public open parkland space for kite flying or ball games with a free modern children’s adventure play ground and free new skateboard park only about 60 meters away.
We aim to provide a site like 'camping used to be'! Not too many fussy rules, you pick the pitch that suits you best - all we ask is that our guests show reasonable respect to each other and our neighbours. We aim to control late night noise with two simple guidelines, hushed voices from 11p.m. (10 o'clock by the ablutions) - and SILENCE from midnight. We also request that everyone, especially children, are resonably hushed until after 8am as not everyone wants to get up at dawn! We are a pretty easy going lot, but the site is patrolled at night to make sure these guidelines are adhered to as a courtesy to other campers. Young, single sex and multiple tent groups may be requested to provide a returnable £25 per person quiet pledge bond.
Simple but clean facilities are provided on site with lit, mains connected toilets, free hot showers (with no charge for use and plugs for ladies hairdryers etc.) and hot water washing up facilities, and,you can blow up your air matresses and freeze your ice packs for free! We also recharge your mobiles in the reception (at your risk) for only £1 a go. Maps and info on walks and things to do are available in the reception and we are always happy to help you choose what to do with your day!
Want to camp but don't have a tent? Why not do it in style by orgainsing your own luxury bell tent through www.ourbigbluesky.com ? They are a separate organisation running near our site so you have to talk to them about prices and bookings but they are reliable and are customer concious and even come and put up your tent in advance of your arrival and furnish it for you! If you take a tent from them your space with us is assured but noise bonds may be required for larger groups.
The burning of small open fires and bar-b-q's are allowed by your tent but only on a raised steel tray provided free (but with deposit) by us. For obvious reasons fires must never be lit on the ground and must be attended at all times, dwindling from 11pm and extinguished by midnight. They must also be located at least 3 meters from any tent. We may have to stop fires when conditions are either very windy or very dry. Reasonably priced campfire packs are for sale in the reception.
Important notes:- We prefer car movements to be kept to a minimum out of courtesy to our neighbours. We are so close to the town centre and sandy beaches that we hope you will prefer to walk as it is easier, greener, cheaper and healthier! Under normal summer weather conditions a grass car parking space (separate from the camping field about 40 meters) is provided with each tent booking.
All bookings are to be for a minimum of two nights, unless we opt to over-rule our own policy for you - sorry we are not a one night stand party site!
Access to the camping area is by foot only. We advise you to carefully consider the 40 meter (approx) walk over rough ground to and from your tent prior to booking and do not recommend this site if you have any member of the family who cannot easily walk this distance in the near dark!
We consider it important for tourism in Swanage to have as little impact on the environment as possible and so we present every arrival with a recycling bucket and monitor waste to ensure that every camper undertakes the simple but important task of sorting out their recycleable materials. We recognise that your stay is about relaxing and kicking back but we think it is important to take a few moments to care for your (and my!) childrens world! Last year the recycling got to a respectable 60% of all waste so please help us to break that record this year!
See our booking page for full details of booking and our deposit and cancellation policy.
We hope you will have a really good and memorable holiday stay with us!!
